'It Ends With Us' Book Review

Who hasn’t heard about this book? It’s literally everywhere. It’s society-won’t-accept-you famous. Skip this book and you’re not a bibliophile anymore. Even its monotone audiobook on YouTube has 1m+ views and I’m not even kidding, see it for yourself.

and that’s really problematic because I cringed so much at so many points. The plot of this book was so predictable and everything was happening so fast. I do not understand why people loved it so much. I'll give you my point of view.

Reasons to Read ‘It Ends With Us’-

  1. This book has 384 pages and it can be finished in a day if your reading speed is well above average.

  2. This book will keep you engaged till the end.

  3. There won’t be any need to google words since it's easy-read, so people who do not read books because they get tired of searching for meanings can read this book without giving any second thought.

  4. The message that the author wants to provide through this book is amazing and probably that’s one of the reasons why people loved this book.

  5. Because of Alyssa!!!!!!! She’s a fictional character, but I wish we were friends :/

  6. The protagonist refused to be a Manic pixie dream girl.

  7. Some quotes are deep and amazing.

Reasons to NOT read ‘It Ends With Us’-

  1. I’m an addiction, Ryle” “I really am a drug” “ A lot many people want to have sex with me- Lily

relax Lily, that ain’t something to be so proud of. Such lines cringed the hell out of me.

  1. How is everyone getting successful throughout the novel? Lily starts a business and boom! Her business is nominated for one of the most successful new businesses in Boston? ClichΓ©! Her friend, Alyssa, is already rich. Her boyfriend/husband/ex-husband is a neurosurgeon. Her old friend, Atlas, who used to be poor, starts a restaurant and is filthy rich now. WTH?

  1. The plot of this book is really stereotypical and fake. Why weren't there any unexpected twists? I wanted something different so bad.

  2. The ending really bothered me. People call it a good ending but according to me, it was a bummer. God, I’ve never seen a girl more confused and a guy so optimistic lmao.

  3. I guess the main focus on Ryle and Lily’s relationship was a let down as I could care less for them both and found their relationship from the beginning creepy. Seriously. First meeting and its been just five minutes and you already want to fuck her? Please go away!!

AND SHE LITERALLY SAW HIM SMACKING AND THROWING A CHAIR BEFORE TALKING FOR THE FIRST TIME. Maybe it should have been a hint?

The only thing I loved about this book is the message it’s trying to provide. There’s absolutely no excuse for domestic violence and it should be crystal clear to everyone. The following two paragraphs are from the book itself and I recommend everyone to read it.

Some beautiful Quotes from the book-

  • There is no such thing as bad people. We’re all just people who sometimes do bad things.”

  • “I think that’s one of the biggest signs a person has matured—knowing how to appreciate things that matter to others, even if they don’t matter very much to you.”

  • “All humans make mistakes. What determines a person's character aren't the mistakes we make. It's how we take those mistakes and turn them into lessons rather than excuses.”

  • “In the future... if by some miracle you ever find yourself in the position to fall in love again... fall in love with me.”

  • “Just because someone hurts you doesn't mean you can simply stop loving them. It's not a person's actions that hurt the most. It's the love. If there was no love attached to the action, the pain would be a little easier to bear.”
