Verity By Colleen Hoover (Spoiler-free)

“I wasn’t heroic. I wasn’t simple. I was difficult. An emotionally challenging puzzle he wasn’t up for solving.”

I read this book a few months ago and decided not to WASTE my time on the review, but I met a hardcore fan of Colleen Hoover at my friend’s wedding and according to her, Colleen Hoover “changed” her life. So I read this book again to write a review. Yes, I know it was a very stupid decision. There’s no point in reading a thriller book again and also because who the hell re-reads a Colleen Hoover book? lol

I genuinely hate her books and I think the author and I don't really mesh with our styles overall. Colleen Hoover is for the people who only ever read fanfiction written by 12 year olds when they were younger so they now think this is the absolute peak of smutty romance. I'm really not a fan of the immense amount of gratuitous sex in her books. I get to the point where I just skim through those parts to find the true story. So much of this book is completely implausible, but it makes this psychological thriller darker and even more disturbing.

I really appreciate Hoover trying a different genre. Though I don‘t think this is an actual mystery thriller, it is actually heavy in the romance dept. It also contains some parts that may be hard to read because they're very graphic, in a villainous way.

I’ll stop the rant now. I’ll just talk about the book as straight as I can.

The name of the protagonist is Lowen Ashleigh. I keep on forgetting her name because, for some reason, people call her by different names throughout the book. Not really different, but like cute(not imo) names. Anyway, she fell in love with a handsome hunk who is married and had 3 children. Now, I have a question; why are all dudes in Colleen Hoover's book handsome? I get that we all are here to skip from reality and have a new fictional crush, but that can also be achieved by bringing in a good personality. That Jeremy Crawford hardly had any personality. He was a caring husband and father( not sure though), but sorry, I’m not gonna get impressed by how good he was in bed. I disliked that guy the very minute he gave his shirt to Lowen and the fact that Lowen TOOK IT!! is just *rolls eyes* I would have been like “no thank you. Now if you could please wear it as fast as you can because it’s kinda making me uncomfortable. By the way, nice abs if that’s what you wanted to hear hehe”

This book gave me more trust issues. You cannot figure out the truth. You can just keep on guessing the possibility of certain events which is annoying. The ending is the game changer to be specific. I couldn't have ever thought of that ending and I don’t mean it in a good way lol. It fucked my brain completely and the story made less sense, but surprisingly a lot of cents. Good for her lol.

I’m sorry I couldn’t find enough good points. There’s no character development. Like any other Hoover book, This novel didn’t quite live up to the Hype. I'm obviously in the minority because most people think this book is amazing and people get way too defensive when you say that its clear the only reason she's so big on BookTok is because all the people who love her books are the same people who haven't read anything since like 5th grade and it might seem mean but I'm sorry it's true.. they're literally going through the awkward weird book phase that most people go through in their teens but like, at 25. It honestly looks like the Wattpad audience has shifted to books now.

In short, Verity is dumb. Don't read it. There are so many better books out there. I wouldn't recommend anyone this book or in fact, any of Hoover books. They are all trash.
I just can’t believe it’s the ENTIRE INTERNET STANNING HER NOW. Please guys believe me, there's a beautiful fictional world full of good literature out there.
