A letter to Hagrid

I vaguely remember the first time I completed the Harry Potter series, but I vividly remember the kind of warm feeling your character gave me. Your character indeed felt like a warm hug. I know you might have heard this a lot, yet I want you to know that you are and will always be one of my favourite Harry Potter Characters. How you cared about the school that expelled you says a lot about you. The kind disposition you maintained even after literally going through a series of tragic events taught all of us a life lesson. You taught me things that maybe you aren't even aware of. You taught me how to be a good friend, one that never leaves their friend’s side no matter what. We still have a lot to learn, why did you leave us?

The news reduced me to tears and I have no other way to tell you how important and precious you are. You were brilliant, a gentle giant who shared a love for monsters. I know it got you and the trio into trouble ’n’ number of times and you were greatly apologetic about that, but I also know that you love people and creatures unconditionally. You never expected anything in return and were always a giver. You were framed for a crime that you didn’t even commit and it affected the rest of your life and still, you did everything you could to save Hogwarts.

I felt kinda out of sorts when the trio dropped your subject in the sixth year and somewhere in my mind, I think it would have bothered you for a long time. Longer than anyone could deduct. Hagrid, you saved your best friends because of that subject. You were one of the best teachers they could get. I won’t disagree that the classes were a little dangerous, but your intentions were clean. You had the purest soul.

Dumbledore came to your aid when you had no father figure in your life anymore, and you came to Harry’s aid when he had no father figure in his life anymore. There’s something strangely poetic about that. The “I can do anything for my loved ones” quality is rare. We need more people like you.

Hagrid, you said, “What’s comin’ will come, an’ we’ll meet it when it does.” and I respect that, but I didn’t know this was coming. I still cannot believe it. The fact that you left all of us hasn't really sunk in. We’ll be okay though don’t worry about us. I just hope you are reunited with Dumbledore!

RIP Robbie Coltrane, the man who introduced Harry, and the audience to the Wizarding World. Rest easy.
